Infinite Time Begets Infinite Cats

One of my favorite, stupid things to do when I’m in Best Buy is to take the demo video cameras and point them at the television on which they are broadcasting. You know the drill – you get an infinitely decreasing collection of images of the television. Now take that idea, move it to the world wide web, and liberally apply some old-fashioned Felis silvestris domesticus, and voil?!

I give you The Infinite Cat Project. You can start with the first feline, Frankie, and using the “Next Cat” button, click your way through almost 700 other cute kitties captured in silent contemplation of Frankie and his flower in a glorious reductionist chain.

The person responsible for this Internet masterpiece is obviously a genius.

Global Warming Tipping Point

According to researchers, the effects of global warming could reach an unstoppable turning point. However, if they are wrong, a lot of rich people could lose a lot of money for no reason. Besides, the worst that could happen if they are right is that the entire ecosystem on Earth could be irreparably damaged. Oh, right, we’re still trying to convice the current administration that global warming EXISTS! So much for signing the Kyoto accord.

Misery to peak on Monday January 24th, RUN AND HIDE!

According to researchers, people will be the most miserable they can be all year on this coming Monday, January 24th. This isn’t an Onion article people, this is science. There’s a formula and everything: “/8W+(D-d) 3/8xTQ MxNA. Where W is weather, D is debt – minus the money (d) due on January’s pay day – and T is the time since Christmas.”

And we all know, if there’s math, it must be true, especially if the formula is more than one line and contains variables. It’s so “confusing” you should just nod your head, and hide under the covers.

Cheerio!

Default password challenge

I’ve been collecting AOL CD tins for another project, and every now and then, the default passwords I see imprinted on the back make me laugh.

For example, I have a tin which features the default passwords “DOUSED-PARIAH” and “SATIN-RUBY”. Somehow, this makes me giggle, although I’m sure that a pariah who had gotten soaked would think otherwise of the situation.
AOL CD with default password 'doused-pariah'
(Proof that I didn’t make this up)

So, here’s the challenge. Anyone have a default password on an AOL CD (or something similar) that’s goofier than the one above?

Shave your circuits lately?

This intriguing article discusses a problem that I’ve never heard of until now. Apparently, electronics have a tendency to grow metal whiskers over time, which can lead to short circuits.

Not to be outdone by a Supreme Court justice, Senator John McCain isn’t dodging his civic duty either.
